In pve, I saw one or 2 mesmer during whole nightfall. Assassins are not so frequent either. In pvp, ritualists are nearly dead, but essencialy because no one tried channeling tree so far effectively.

BTW You really are making them seem more powerful than they are

That's pretty much how I see it as well.
Except I still overall see more warriors than paragon and dervish if you are talking about all 3 continents.

WAAAAAAAATTTTTT?!?!?!?!?!?!???!?!?! How in the world can you even say that???? Have you LOOKED at teh ritualist forums? have you seen how few of them there are compared to Mesmers? There are at least 6-10 mesmers whenever i go into a town, and jsut about zip of ritualists. And mesmers do fine as a primary, they just have a bad rep because they pwn almost any class(depending on your skill choice) and no one can play them properly. So whoever thinks taht memsers should only be used as a secondary have to go through me..... grrrrr, srry i jsut get sooo heated when people talk down about mesmers, its just not fair, if you only went and tried a primary mes, you would see that they ROCK!!!!!

Why wouldn't Rits be common, they own come NF. Attuned was Songkai + Renewing Surge = constant, high DPS.

Got to say that since my most frequently used characters are a mesmer and a ritualist, I know that I am part of a real minority.
I spend quite a bit of time trying to find good builds involving Ritualists and Mesmers and find that sometimes this requires careful use of a secondary profession.
Whilst I agree that they are the least played, I think they are the most entertaining to play as they give more of a challenge and require more precision to use them effectively.
Perhaps it is peoples' lack of imagination and their obsession with farming which means that these professions are shunned. After all, why farm in difficult ways when there are simpler ways to do it with other professions ?
If people were less obsessed with their "wallets", would Ritualists and Mesmers be more prominent ? I'd like to think so.

LOL, this thread makes me laugh.
@ all you ppl who dont like MMs.. did you know that an MM with a full army can do upwards of ~150 DPS, if u use Order of Undeath you can get upwards of ~250 DPS. Thats why people play MM. And SS as well.. if u pop an SS into a big mob of monsters, the damage it deals is incredible.
The reasons why mesmers aren't popular are:
a) they can't tank
b) they can't deal consistent aoe damage as well as say, an ele or necro.
c) they cant heal
Therefore, they have no REAL use in pve.. Sure they can shut down 1 caster or 1 melee, but who cares if theres like 15 of them that need to be killed? Why not just take an ele and searing flames them all.. that will shut them down easily enough.
Rits aren't played as often because.. well they're boring (at least i find them boring). Another reason they are not popular is because you are constantly on the move, and spirit spammers are not mobile. As AoE damage dealers, they cant compare to an ele or necro, As single target damage dealers or tanks, they will only ever replace warriors or rangers if they use spirit's strength, and as healers they can never replace a good monk. As a support character, paragons are a better choice.
IDEA: [skill]Spirit's Strength[/skill] + [skill]Cyclone Axe[/skill]

I play primarily as a ritualist and only see a handful every so many days outside of the monastery in cantha. Mesmers seem rather common to me nowadays and often see pugs looking for one in Nightfall.
From a pve standpoint, I have to say the ritualist is the rarest class.
Gumby, a good spirit spammer does not have mobility issues. They just need to place the spirits in the right areas, help the team kill the mob, and then move on to the next group within a single cycle. The set up is just slow.
And for the record, ritualists really cannot be compared to monks; they have entirely different healing mechanics.
Misunderstanding and flawed efforts of class comparison are most likely the main reasons why ritualists are so rare.

Mssmers, no reason to ever play one is PvE since fast casting is useless there.
good in PvP though

Rits, hardly seen any not surprising since they got a bit of a battering with the nerf bat.
And imo this thread is about what is the least played chars, not about the bashing or the ego massage of mesmers.

Finding a decent asn these days is pretty tough. I've only ever played with one competent assassin and he happens to be an officer in my guild. Primary mesmers aren't exactly common in PvE from what i've seen. When i first started playing GW, my initial impression was that Mesmer was a very advanced class. It wasn't just a 'hit 'em and see what happens' style affair like a warrior. It takes skill, timing and on-your-feet thinking which alot of the classes either don't have or don't need. Rits in PvE are also rare enough outside of Cantha. In my time in Elona i think i've only seen one or two, it's the same in Tyria.
In PvP however, Rits are actually popular - at least in the 4v4 RA and TA. Spirit nesters are the bane of RA and Rit healers are actually being used more in specific 4-man team builds. From what I've seen and played in the larger arenas however, Rits have been brushed aside in favour of the buffing Paragon.
